The Duo: Steve Layne & Ron Pitt
Ron first met Steve in the seventies and started to work with him in several bands playing mostly MOR music performing at many venues in East Anglia. It was at the beginning of the eighties that Ron moved on and started to immerse himself in country music and joined the Norwich based band Mississippi Delta, playing gigs around Norfolk and Suffolk. The band also played Wembley and toured the North East. This gave Ron a bigger passion to perform at places further afield and to take his style of guitar playing to more people.
He joined a more local band in the eighties, this being a reformed Pinewood County, with this band the American air bases were the mainstay of the gigs, also performing at the Peterborough Country Music Festival which was a major venue at that time. The band backed many touring American country artistes including Jeannie C Riley (Harper Valley PTA), Hank Thompson, the honky tonk/western swing star who sold over 60 million records and many more artistes. The band also played at festivals in Holland.
Ron did some work with the very popular Les Close Band from Doncaster before moving onto Tennessee Whisky and also forming the duo Double Whisky. These acts took Ron all over the UK , playing at many country venues from the top of Scotland to the pointy bit of Cornwall!! meeting some fantastic people along the way, who without their help and goodwill it wouldn’t have been possible. By renewing his association with Steve, Ron hopefully will meet some of these people again and be able to bring his style of country music, along with Steve’s fantastic voice and musical ability to the country clubs of the UK.
